The City of Caen does not want to be a mere spectator of the 2024 Olympic Games! “We are determined to present, at the start of 2022, an action plan around the Olympic Games with two objectives: to capture the delegations that will prepare for Paris 2024 and to use the biggest world event to bring physical activity into the daily lives of people, ”explains Aristide Olivier, deputy mayor in charge of sports.
Sites labeled for the preparation of the Olympic Games
A little over a year ago, seven sites in Caen were labeled Preparation Centers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Hélitas stadium, the nautical stadium, the rowing base, the current and future Palais des Sports and the Halle Saint-Jean-Eudes are all facilities suitable for hosting federations wishing to prepare for the Olympic Games in Normandy.
Convince and seduce
Since this official recognition started in October 2020, Caen must convince foreign delegations to choose it. A promotional video was posted on the networks earlier this week. “On fine-tuning our tools to create envy. It makes the gift wrap look beautiful ”, beyond the technical sheets consulted beyond the 206 National Olympic Committees and the 182 National Paralympic Committees.
We received a delegation a few weeks ago to present our equipment. These are generated 40 swimmers who will come to train with us. I have high hopes that this track can be realized in a positive way.

Among the strengths of Caen, 2h30 from Paris, is “the unity of places of practice”. “It’s an element with other competing cities. For example, we are lucky to have the Hélitas stadium and the swimming pool close to the city center. “No timetable has been established with this in mind to be the backbone of the Games, but” everything will be stalled in 2022 “.
“A sports territory”
At the same time as welcoming the preparatory stages, Caen therefore aspires to “use the Olympic Games as a lever” to promote the sporting practice of its citizens a little more. Paris 2024 must “irrigate the Caen area, which is already a sports area”, argues Aristide Olivier. Labeled Terre de Jeux 2024 in the same way as the Calvados department, Caen is making every effort to be an actor in the big party that is being prepared.
