ROME (ITALPRESS) – The 2021 WFP Awards Ceremony, promoted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, was held in the Chapter Hall of the Senate. The Assembly expressed its appreciation and admiration to a number of states and organizations for their distinguished contributions in fields, recognizing them as a source of progress for the development of the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions. In particular, the beneficiaries were selected in the sectors of cooperation and dialogue between civilizations, humanitarian / medical assistance, migration management, combating domestic violence, promoting gender equality, responding to pandemics, protection environment and education. Among the countries awarded by the Secretary General of WFP, Sergio Piazzi, also the Republic of San Marino, figure of the Secretary of State for Health Roberto Ciavatta, for the development of digital tools aimed at combating domestic and gender-based violence. The Tecum smartphone application, developed by the Secretariat in collaboration with the web agency Mr. App Srl, in fact struck the delegates of the international organization, in particular for its ability to speed up the intervention times of the police while maintaining the at the same time the privacy of victims of violence. An innovation considered even more useful in times of pandemics, where due to the restrictions imposed to limit the infection, cases of domestic violence are tragic. Ciavatta, who spoke after the awarding of the prize, cordially thanked all the participants and recalled how the Republic of San Marino will have the honor, starting from Saturday 20 November, of hosting a branch of the WFP in its territory. Secretary General Sergio Piazzi recalled how the Republic of San Marino and its parliament recently approved the legislation for the custody of foreign minors not accompanied by a conflict zone. The PAM Study Center will be and will host up to twenty officials and researchers in Villino Balsimelli and will produce high-level multidisciplinary research on topics such as security and the fight against terrorism, political cooperation, social integration, migration, climate change, human rights and intercultural dialogue.
