Jorge Palma will take 70 turns in the sun ″ in Porto and Lisbon
The show that marked the singer’s 70th birthday will be played at CCB and at Casa da Música. Album that records the moment is released on Friday.
It was another fat date caught by the pandemic – Jorge Palma’s 70th birthday, marked in September 2020 with a concert at the Castelo de São Jorge, in Lisbon, was not the mass event that the singer deserved, but just an “intimate recital “to about 100 people. Fortunately for the public, the moment was recorded on the CD and double vinyl “70 Voltas ao sol”, available from tomorrow. And it will be reproduced, in its full alignment that runs through the most iconic gems of the creator of “The wrong side of the night”, in three shows: Centro Cultural de Belém, in Lisbon, on 20 November; Casa da Música, No. Porto, on the 24th; and again at the CCB, on an extra date, on December 16th.
Jorge Palma doesn’t complain about the adversities that prevented a freer birthday – and we don’t even talk about the freedom he knew in Christiania, the independent city founded in Denmark in 1971 and which Palma frequented before and after April 25, acting in exchange for ” rounds of beer and hash cakes, “a” total freedom, I could walk around naked if I wanted to” – because the experience of the pandemic responds with the quote from a famous TV commercial: “It’s not the World that adapts to us, we are that we adapt to the World”. It helps not to have a bohemian as a priority: “I live a quiet neighborhood life, I didn’t feel that much of a dent. I had all the time in the world. I filled my days with news from various countries, I read something, I exercised laziness”. But was this period productively null? “I won’t have done as many things as Vitorino, who was fed up with composing, but a moment of fallow doesn’t mean a suspension of ideas: there are things that are left to marinate”.
