Greece and Panama have forged a strong relationship in Shipping
On November 3, the Panama celebrated his liberation from Colombia in 1903, while November 28 celebrates its independence from Spain which took place earlier, in 1821.
In the anniversary year 2021 both Panama and Hellas celebrate the 200th anniversary of their liberation from Spain and the Ottoman Empire, respectively. Two states that over the years have forged a strong relationship in Shipping. The Embassy and Consulate General of Panama in Greece at the initiative of the Ambassador and Consul General of Panama in Greece, Julie Lymperopoulou undertook to organize an art exhibition in November 2021, dedicated to the 200 years of Panama’s independence, with works by the Panamanian painter, Olga Sinclair, and the nine renowned Greek artists: (in alphabetical order) Io Aggeli, Giorgos Avgeros, Apostol, Chryssa Vergi, Anna Gerolymatou, Irini Kana, Christos Kechagioglou, Vangelis Rina, and Manolis Haro, who created their works in honor of Panama through their own gaze and conception. The synergy and close cooperation of the Embassy and Consulate General of Panama in Greece with Municipality of Piraeus is an important seal of the twinning agreement signed in July 2021 between the City of Panama and the City of Piraeus. THE Municipal Gallery of Piraeus houses this valuable effort and gives a step to the works of artists for this sacred anniversary purpose.
The natural art exhibition at the Municipal Gallery of Piraeus will remain open to the public from 15/11/2021 – 3/12/2021, while the visit is free.
At the same time, the company SQLearn undertook the creation of the digitized version of the exhibition, which allows this great endeavor to travel around the world, overcoming any obstacle or limit posed by a physical exhibition, especially in times of pandemic.
The Embassy and Consulate General of Panama in Greece created an anniversary commemorative album to accompany the physical and digital exhibition.
As a parallel action, the Piraeus Philharmonic He played the National Anthem of Panama on the main stage of the Emblematic Municipal Theater of Piraeus with the aim of producing a creative anniversary video that will be screened at the Embassy events and will travel around the world.
At the opening of the exhibition, the Ambassador and Consul General of Panama in Greece, SA Ms. Julie Lymberopoulos He said: “We are very proud that through these important anniversary actions it is proven dynamic, symbolic and peritrans that through art and Culture our two peoples come even closer, communicate and interact substantially.
The exhibition pays tribute to those who lost their lives in Panama and Greece, which is why it is entitled “Praising Freedom”.
The Ambassador was moved when she referred to her parents who are mentioned from the Peloponnese, the area where the Greek Revolution began.
The event was greeted with speeches the general secretary of Hellenes Abroad of the Ministry of Culture Giannis Chrysoulakis, the Deputy Minister of Education Mr. Angelos Syrigos, the Mayor of Piraeus Mr. Giannis Moralis and the Deputy Mayor of Culture of the Municipality of Piraeus Irini Daifa.
