District President Jans: “Initiative jeopardizes Basel’s climate protection goals”
Just in his first important referendum as Basel’s district president, Beat Jans competes against his own party: He defends himself against the housing protection initiative from the red-green camp. There will hardly be this one dissent.
It was a small kick to the shin – no more, but no less either. At their assembly of delegates, the Basel Social Democrats are promoting their Vice President Stefan Wittlin for the “Yes to real housing protection” initiative, but their party colleagues and Beat Jans, who is responsible for the business of the current government councilor, did not invite the comrades to vote against. The 57-year-old had hardly any public appearances on the subject, which is astonishing in view of the great importance of the template, but can certainly be explained with the special constellation. A few days before the decisive Sunday, he now gives a detailed opinion to the bz.
