Corona in Munich: record incidence and more new infections than ever – Munich
The Munich health authorities reported 3565 new corona cases to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for Wednesday, more than ever since the pandemic began. If you subtract the 326 late reports from the days before, there are still 3239 within 24 hours. On Tuesday, 2440 newly infected people were recorded, adjusted for the delay, there are 2030 people who die on one day as positive. For Monday, the statistics quickly showed 1000 fewer. Munich had to enter 1,264 new cases in the lists, without late registrations there were 1,046.
Three days, three values, which drastically show what exponential growth can mean: being able to clearly map from 1046 to 2030 to 3239. If as many people as simply become infected in just a few days, then at the end of the day there is currently a narrow, steep line upwards.
The health department in view of the number of cases on Thursday that it would largely stop the persecution of the contacts. Only members of an affected household die and people with contact to particularly endangered groups or facilities such as nursing homes would hear from the office in the future. Incidentally, even those who tested positive would have to take care of informing their contacts. They should do a quick test independently, but do not have to report to the health department without symptoms and do not go into quarantine. This is what the Free State’s requirements would provide.
A third of all Munich residents have not yet been vaccinated
The fact that the numbers are so extreme during the week also has something to do with a Munich peculiarity: the health authorities have clearly reported these low values for a long time due to a lack of staff. As a result, just a week ago, on November 11th, an incidence of 93.3 was published. With obviously significantly more employees, the gap has now largely been dealt with, which in itself meant a noticeable leap. In addition, there was now exponential growth, which resulted in additional and higher fluctuations than expected at the beginning of the week. Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) spoke of a suspected incidence on Friday between 500 and 600. This was already far exceeded with the report on Wednesday (694.8).
One reason is that around a third of all Munich residents have not yet been vaccinated. RKI boss Lothar Wieler has calculated how startling such numbers are. Most recently, 0.8 percent of the sick died, he said. That would mean for the city: 26 Munich residents who were registered as positive on Wednesday will die of Covid-19.
