In Salzburg, too, there are increasing voices from tourism calling for an immediate and hard lockdown – in order to save the winter season and to reduce the number of infections, as it is said. The hoteliers Petra Nocker-Schwarzenbacher and Sepp Schellhorn pleaded for appropriate steps in nationwide ORF broadcasts.
According to the authorities, the CoV infection numbers would chase from one negative record to another. Hospitals are overloaded.
Suddenly many lockdown voices again
The economy is now demanding “more courageous measures” from the government. More and more people in the tourism industry are in favor of an immediate complete lockdown – including Petra Nocker-Schwarzenbacher, the former chairwoman of the tourism sector in the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKÖ).
She runs a hotel in St. Johann im Pongau. “I am clearly in favor of a lockdown,” emphasizes the industry expert on Tuesday night on ORF television: “Firstly, lockdown to relieve the health system and to be able to take a breather. And what we urgently need, from a tourist point of view, is that we finally push the numbers down. “
In view of the infection situation, Germany declared Austria a high-risk corona area last Sunday.
Hotelier association also for hard courses
“There has already been a wave of cancellations, especially in the holiday hotel industry,” said the Salzburg hotelier and former NEOS politician Sepp Schellhorn on Wednesday on the radio show Ö3- “Frühjournal”. The Austrian Hotel Association (ÖHV) is now joining this chorus: “After the waves of cancellations and the number of bookings dropping in the past few days, only a few establishments can show an occupancy rate that enables economic work”, says ÖHV Vice-President Walter Veit, who works in Obertauern (Pongau / Lungau) operates a hotel. The tourist winter season, which normally doesn’t really start until Christmas, is still forbidden to write off. The winter is still long.
