“We are in the midst of the consequences of covid”
A few days before the big collection, it’s time for the final preparations. While the 2020 version took place during the second lockdown, the one that will arrive will be launched without restriction. However, the covid continues to hover like a specter …
“This is the first post-covid collection, but we, on a daily basis, we are in the midst of the consequences of covid ”Argues Marie-Laure Berrest, communications manager for the collection.
The number of benefits increased last year, we went from 12,000 to 20,000. This figure has not decreased … We are not really in the post-covid, we still fully suffer the consequences of this crisis.

“On a need for volunteers”
Now is the time to make an appeal. ” He is different because this post-crisis effect lasts over time, ”continues Marie-Laure Berrest.
“We always have volunteers who are there every day, who are an unwavering support. But we need volunteers, donors. We need people to give the next weekend, when they go to their classes. ”
At the time of the 2020 collection, we had active volunteers who were on short-time working, self-employed people for whom the activity had no reprisals. They came to help us at the Food Bank. But they have since resumed their activities and suddenly they are no longer available as much as they were to help us.
“The retirees, who were afraid of the virus during the crisis, have rather stayed at home and did not come back“, We also regret on the side of the Food Bank. “But on the luck of having good teams of volunteers, always motivated. “
The Bank covers Haute-Garonne, Ariège and Tarn-et-Garonne. “Ideally, we need between 700 and 1,000 volunteers over the three collection days“, Considers Marie-Laure Berrest. “Last week, we only had a hundred or so on the sorting sites …”
A target of 300 tonnes
All forces are gathered as D-Day approaches. 270 tons of donations were collected in 2020: the target is set at 300 for 2021.
“The national collection is our biggest action on the three departments ”warns, for his part, Alain Lamarque, President of the Food Bank of Toulouse and its region.
The Food Bank teams, on site, are mobilizing to finish coordinating the whole. Our supply and logistics transport services are mobilized, in addition to our daily action which does not stop during collection. We continue to distribute to associations every day …
