Toulouse: the dismay of Denise who has the impression of leaving her “property to the wild boars”
Enough is enough ! Denise no longer knows what to do to ward off the wild boars that regularly ravage the lawn of her property located in Pouvourville, on the heights of Toulouse.
Denise has lived for more than 20 years in “a small paradise” in Pouvourville, on the heights of Toulouse. For several years, she has had to share, despite herself, the 6,000 square meters of her landscaped garden with the wild boars. This year, the presence of wild pigs is particularly devastating as evidenced by the completely turned over lawn, in several places in the park that surrounds his house. “The other evening, it was 8 pm, I was coming home from the cinema, five young wild boars passed in front of my car, in the private driveway that leads to my house,” says Denise.
In general, when she is inside it is her dog Billy, a Coton de Tulear, who warns her of the presence of wild animals, barking. “It is often at night. And I’m not afraid to go out. The other evening, I found myself facing a big boar who looked at me, ”continues Denise.
“There are still 4 years, we did not have all these problems but for two years, it is the disaster. It hurts my heart to see my garden in this state, ”says Denise.
Also, she does all she can to strengthen the fence that surrounds her house, “by putting piles of wood, stacked benches, and even cacti”. But nothing helps, they always manage to lift the fence with a muzzle, “there are so many places where they can go”, recognizes Denise.
A few years earlier, thanks to the intervention of the louveterie lieutenants, she was able to install a wild boar cage in her orchard. “We trapped them by putting in corn and we took seven,” recalls Denise.
The latter wrote to the husband of Toulouse for informants of the proliferation of wild pigs on her property. Today, she is in contact with an agent of the departmental direction of Haute-Garonne to try to stem this proliferation. “For this, he cleans all the wasteland in the surroundings that this nuisance. If it weren’t for all of this, the wild boars wouldn’t come and hide here, ”admits Denise.
“They are looking for food”
If more and more wildlife are arriving at the gates of cities, “it is because there is a reduction in their habitat. As the forests diminish in favor of the city, the wild boars are getting closer, ”explains Camille Dyrda, of the“ Nature Occitanie ”association. And to add: “To this are added food shortages therefore, they will look where it is. “By approaching cities, wild pigs have become acclimatized to the human presence,” so much so that they are less afraid of humans “, assures Camille Dyrda.
Regulated beatings are organized temporarily in the area to regulate the population of wild boars. But they seem quite insufficient with regard to their reproduction.
