Spotify releases paid podcast subscriptions in the Netherlands and Belgium – Image and sound – News
Maybe, but it has very little to do with it. This really is one of those amateur content creators: on YouTube this also happens a lot, for example in the form of Patreon of YouTube Premium exclusives. Not much different, besides that you have image next to the sound.
As for being able to listen to an album only if you have, and I’m assuming you’re talking about a music album, that’s basically the intention. That free version is only faithfully usable on desktops and is really an extra because of the advertisements: most other streaming services don’t offer it anyway and they still have the right to exist. Take one of their total removals, Apple Music. Placing albums en masse behind an extra subscription, I don’t see that happening any time soon actually.
Listening a month earlier (although I see that happening more often in the form of a week/several days) would be like all those streaming services looking ahead to your episodes before they’re on TV. Then you are late to the party if you only see a broadcast a week later that your friends already saw the week before, and that works (I also saw that with the Temptation Island viewers in my area). That would be the best thing to do, but then again, whether that will appeal to everyone is another matter, because things are slightly different on Spotify.
