Salzburg chimney sweeps do not only want to be good news for the New Year
The Salzburg chimney sweepers, together with the Salzburg professional photographers, have brought out a chimney sweep calendar for the first time and accompany them throughout the year.
Chimney sweepers have high season at New Year – as a good luck charm. You can get an idea of their main tasks for a whole year from January 2022. Twelve Salzburg photographers lit twelve Salzburg chimney sweepers in the best possible light. The “making-of pictures” on the back of each calendar sheet allow a look behind the scenes of both trades.
What do the two professional groups have in common? Both the chimney sweepers and the professional photographers would stand for quality work, agree Kurt Pletschacher, the national guild master of chimney sweeps and Franz Neumayr, his counterpart among professional photographers. While the former protect life and limb as well as people’s health with their work, the photographers set themselves apart by capturing irretrievable moments for eternity.
The work for the calendar takes the photographers to remote locations and under unusual conditions. Mike Preschl accompanied chimney sweeper Johannes Schmitzberger through his sweeping area on the Untersberg, photographer Eva Frischling went to the Schafberg with chimney sweeper Verena Seifzenecker. Unusual perspectives also open up for photographer Gabriele Schwab – she climbed onto the roofs of Salzburg’s old town with chimney sweeper Andreas Wenger. Sporty commitment was required on the set of photographer Franz Neumayr, because the three little pigs, with whom chimney sweeper Natalie Furthner was to be photographed, were looking for the distance and are probably only to be captured again. This can be seen on the “making-of pictures” on the back of the calendar sheets or in the “making-of video” for the calendar.
The calendar is not for sale, it is sent by the two guilds together with congratulations for Christmas and New Year. In addition, interested parties can collect the calendar from Julia Niederhofer in the photographer’s guild office of the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce in exchange for a donation in favor of Caritas
