Renovation in Cologne-Zollstock: The Rosenpark senior center is expanding its range

The renovation work at the Rosenpark senior center is progressing rapidly. The extensive renovation measures have already been underway for two years. “We hope to be able to complete the building with a summer party next year for our 45th anniversary”, explains director Agnes Kolberg. All windows were replaced and the balconies made barrier-free. The extensive, energetic renovation also affects the heating system, which in future will be fed in via district heating.
300 residents affected by the renovation
“Our house looks like a hotel,” say many of the residents appreciatively. Of course, a renovation in an existing building is always associated with annoyances and noise pollution. “But I finally can’t evacuate 300 residents for two years,” explains Kohlberg. Again and again the water has to be turned off at short notice.
“As is explained with older buildings, one or two surprises come to light while you are working your way forward, which then also leads to delays,” says Kolberg. To make matters worse, the Rosenpark is a ten-story skyscraper, which requires special attention to the statics. The outdoor area is currently underway, but the first clean-up work is already underway, the scaffolding is being dismantled.
240 apartments are rented
There is a lot of work to do right now. The ninth and tenth floors are currently being moved back into the shell, because all rooms in inpatient care are being converted into single rooms. “Nothing remains like war, all the doors will be relocated and meeting areas created for wheelchair users and senior citizens who are dependent on the walker.” The Rosenpark has 240 apartments for rent, 42 places are available in stationary accommodation.
As a new component, the senior center can also offer day care in the future. “This completes the range of outpatient and inpatient day care and assisted living. Even if you get sick, you don’t have to move anymore, but stay in your familiar surroundings, ”says Kolberg, explaining the advantages of a variable use of the senior citizen park. At the same time, the director would like to emphasize the perspective for older people.
Anyone who has taken the step and left their private environment on the occasion of the care facility will find a tailor-made offer in Zollstock. “We want to preserve the quality of life of our residents here and respond to the needs of the residents”, is Kolberg’s short-term goal. In addition to a basic package that covers rent, emergency calls, reception services, events and meals, individual services, for example from the housekeeping sector, can be booked. A highlight that everyone is looking forward to is the renovation of the roof garden. It not only offers a view of the cathedral, but is also used as an area for many of the house’s events. And that is not only a special experience for everyone on New Year’s Eve.
