Oliver Pocher rages after the carnival in Cologne – the video stunned him
Thousands of people celebrated Carnival on November 11th in Cologne. In view of the current corona numbers, this is not the best idea, says Oliver Pocher, who is from Cologne.
Cologne – Finally party again, swaying, snapping and enjoying life. Thousands of revelers and carnivalists have been looking forward to it for two years. Was the opening of the carnival session yesterday, Thursday (November 11th) such a good idea because of the current Corona situation in North Rhine-Westphalia? Many are appalled by the escalating party videos from Cologne. Comedian Oliver Pocher (43) is also stunned.

Carnival in Cologne: 11.11. turns into a mega party – video of revelers stunned
Thousands of young people standing tightly packed together and shouting “all jasers huh” at 11.11am sharp. What looks like a recording from pre-Corona times actually happened on November 11th in Cologne this year. Currently, a video of the Cologne city gazette, which captured the party mood of the Jecken on Zülpicher Straße, the carnival hotspot in Cologne’s university district, circulated on social media – and caused horror there.
The fact that, despite the increasing number of infections and an incidence of over 200 in Cologne, many people seem to have celebrated as if Corona had never existed, is incomprehensible to many onlookers: “Very sad day for Cologne” and “I’m stunned. That is irresponsible ”, are only two of the almost 1000 comments on the Instagram video (read more news about the coronavirus in NRW on RUHR24).
Corona in Cologne: Oliver Pocher condemns carnival celebrants and junkies on Instagram
Comedian Oliver Pocher, who has lived in Cologne for many years, captured the carnival atmosphere in a video on Thursday (November 11th) – and is speechless. Amira Pocher’s husband (29) explains to his fans in his Instagram story that on the way to an appointment with RTL, he just passed the Kölner Tanzbrunnen, another carnival hotspot. There, too, you can see crowds, as he shows his followers in his Instagram story.
The comedian roars: “It’s really amazing what’s going on out there. It is celebrated as if there is no tomorrow. I think it’s so incredibly awesome. How much shit is canceled, (…) and then the mayor really opens the carnival here. With an incidence of 250 and 50,000 corona cases. Sometimes you just want to … I don’t understand. “
Carnival 2021/2022: Session opening in Cologne despite Corona – Mayor Reker defends Jecken
Cologne’s Lord Mayor Henriette Reker accompanied the opening of the session on a stage on the Heumarkt on Thursday morning. According to the dpa she defended the start of the carnival in a press conference with the words: “What if we had said: We’ll do it like last year, there’s no carnival. I am firmly convinced that we would not have succeeded in doing that this year. ”Carnival is too firmly anchored in customs in the Rhineland for that.

Instead, attempts had been made in Cologne to put a stop to the coronavirus with a mask requirement, 2G regulation and appeals “only to protect your own household”. But did that work? Comedian Oliver Pocher dares a bitter forecast.

Oliver Pocher dares corona forecast: will carnival in 2021 become the next superspreader event?
“In a few weeks, one or the other will leave intubated and shouldn’t be surprised. But again celebrated Carnival. Therefore: All the best, toi toi toi. It’s crazy what’s going on ”, the comedian rages in his Instagram story (read more celebrity news on RUHR24). A little later, Oliver Pocher shares another video in which he parodied a “carnival jeck in 2 months … after ventilation and intensive care unit”.
The video has already been viewed almost 500,000 times and is very well received by its fans, who apparently for the most part are of the same opinion: “Everyone who’s going to celebrate so big now should be ashamed.”, “Sad truth. Satirically presented perfectly! ”Or“ Many also seem to have forgotten that THAT was exactly the reason for the rapid outbreak here ”can be read in the comments.
It remains to be seen whether Oliver Pocher and his fans should be right and whether the session kick-off in 2021 will actually develop into a superspreader event – like a carnival session in the Heinsberg district in spring 2020. In any case, it is not to be hoped for.
