Covid-19: Portugal with 2,527 new cases and nine deaths
Portugal now registers 2,527 new confirmed cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, the highest number since September 2, nine deaths associated with covid-19 and an increase in hospital admissions, according to official data.
According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) released today, 514 people are now hospitalized, the highest figure since September 15, when 527 patients were hospitalized.
Compared to Tuesday, 28 more patients are hospitalized in the ward and less five in intensive care units.
The nine deaths were registered in the Center (three), in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (three), in the North (two) and in the Algarve (one).
Regarding the age of victims, four were eliminated over 80 years, another four between 70 and 79, and one between 50 and 59 years.
The deaths occurred in the age groups between 50 and 59 years (two), from 70 to 79 years (one) and of the elderly aged 80 or over (six), said the DGS, specifying that six wounded mortals were women and three men .
Since March 2020, 18,283 people have died and 1,112,682 cases of infection have been recorded.
The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated among the elderly over 80 years old (11,928), followed by the age groups between 70 and 79 years old (3,915) and between 60 and 69 years old (1,666).
Of the total number of fatalities registered to date in Portugal, 9,574 were men and 8,709 women.
In the last 24 hours, more than 1,528 active cases have been registered, totaling 39,800 since the beginning of the pandemic, surpassing the number of recovered, plus 990, which increases the national total to 1,054,599 recovered.
The number of contacts under surveillance by health authorities also increased compared to Tuesday, another 1,639, now standing at 36,180.
The new coronavirus has already infected in Portugal at least 515,670 men and 596,240 women, according to data from the DGS, according to which there are 772 cases of unknown sex, which came under investigation, since this information is not based on automatic form. .
Among the new infections, there is an age group from 40 to 49 years old, with 399 more cases, totaling 178,233, followed by 30 to 39 years old, more 373, for a total of 163,733, and from 20 to 29 years old, more 360, adding 180,834 cases.
In the age group from 50 to 59 years old, 355 more cases were registered, totaling 151,382, in the age group from zero to nine years old plus 301, adding up 71,148, from 60 to 69 years old, plus 241, for a total of 103,216 cases, from 10 to 19 years old , over 240, totaling 119,137 cases, from 70 to 79 years old, over 179, totaling 66,549, and from over 80 years old, over 79, which adds up to 78,420 cases in this group since the beginning of the pandemic.
The highest number of infections in the last 24 hours occurred in the region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, where 849 were notified, with 428,904 cases and 7,772 dead so far.
In the Central region there were over 620 cases registered, totaling 152,133 infections and 3,215 deaths, and in the North region another 616 cases, totaling 421,726, and 5,622 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic crisis.
In the Alentejo, 140 new cases of infection were reported, totaling 40,991 infections and 1,056 deaths, and in the Algarve another 215 cases were recorded, accumulating 45,714 infections by SARS-CoV-2 and 492 deaths.
The Autonomous Region of Madeira registered 64 new cases, totaling 13,446 infections and 79 deaths due to the covid-19 disease since March 2020.
In the last 24 hours, and according to DGS, the Azores registered 44 new cases, which raises to 9,725 infections since the beginning of the pandemic and 47 deaths due to the disease.
The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.
Incidence jumps and the transmissibility rate also goes up
The rate of increase of the SARS-CoV-2 virus at the national level has increased significantly and has already reached 173.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while the transmissibility index (Rt) also registered a slight increase to 1.17.
According to the epidemiological bulletin released today by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), at national level the incidence rate rose, since Monday, from 156.5 to 173.7 cases of infection per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days.
In mainland Portugal, this indicator also registered an increase, from 155.3 to 172.9 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants.
The Rt – which estimates the number of secondary cases of infection of each person carrying the virus – increased slightly from 1.16 to 1.17 nationally, a figure that was already registered on Monday for mainland Portugal.
The Rt data and the incidence of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants within 14 days – indicators that make up the risk matrix for monitoring the pandemic – are produced by health authorities on Monday, Wednesday and Friday .
