Numbers in hospitals continue to rise
The strongest increase was again in the federal state of Upper Austria, where a record number of 4,423 new infections and five fatalities were reported within one day. This is followed by Lower Austria with 2,294 new infections within 24 hours. There were 1,966 cases in Styria, 1,934 in Vienna, 1,094 in Tyrol, 1,067 in Salzburg, 786 in Carinthia, 646 in Vorarlberg and 206 in Burgenland.
The reflection is also broader in the seven-day incidences, where the new infections for a whole week per 100,000 inhabitants are offset. Salzburg is currently in first place with a value of 1,612.1, where the Salzburg State Clinics (SALK) are already completely overloaded. Then comes Upper Austria with 1,530.9. Tyrol (1,015.8), Vorarlberg (1,009.4), Carinthia (968.2), Lower Austria (908), Styria (719.4) and Burgenland (637.5) follow. Vienna continues to have the lowest incidence with 510.3, where increased measures were started much earlier.

271 bags in a week
According to the Ministry of Health and the Interior, 126,149 people are now actively suffering from an infection. That is almost 7,000 cases – exactly 6,978 – more than the day before. The value of those infected who are treated in hospital has also increased critically. There are currently 2,723 patients with Covid-19 in the hospital, 155 more than on Tuesday. 486 people now need intensive care. That’s 28 within a day and 73 more within a week.
Again, many people died of or with Covid-19 – within one day it was 41 and a seven-day average 39. In total, the Covid-19 pandemic has claimed 11,848 lives in Austria since the outbreak. Per 100,000 inhabitants, 132.6 people have died of or with corona since the pandemic began.
Positive corona tests are increasing
The positive rate of the PCR tests is 3.1 percent. But more tests are being done again in Austria. A total of 875,690 PCR and rapid antigen tests were registered in the past 24 hours, compared to 722,050 the day before. Of the 875,690 more than half – namely 468,810 – were meaningful PCR tests. Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 132 million tests have been carried out in Austria.
Since the disease broke out in Austria, there have been 996,320 confirmed cases. 858,323 people have recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection.
