MONACO

A ballet of 196 drones in place of the fireworks for the Monaco National Day on Thursday

Sugar Mizzy November 17, 2021

The National Day may well be a tradition that has been celebrated annually since 1857, but that does not prevent it from being renewed. To the delight of Monegasques and residents.

This year, therefore, there will not be the traditional fireworks display, but the event will still be on the sky side with a lighted drone show which will be offered tonight at 8 p.m.

196 light drones

No less than 196 illuminated drones will fly in the Monegasque sky above the Prince’s Palace for 12 minutes of a show imagined and choreographed by the MC-Clic company, all in music.

“This kind of light drone show is starting to take place all over the place, especially for the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics, explains Prince Albert II in the interview he gave to Monaco-Matin. I had seen that too, at the opening ceremony of the Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne in 2020. It’s quite spectacular. We will have to look at a hundred meters above the Rock what will happen this Thursday evening at 8 pm. “

At the helm of this unprecedented spectacle in the Principality, the Monegasque company MC-Clic and its founder and manager Erwan Grimaud. “We have been working on it for 5 months. There will be 196 drones, all with special encoding, which will take off from Place du Palais at 8 pm. They will be piloted by computer. The show will last 12 minutes to music imagined by Ferxel Van (the person in charge of protocol and communication at the Archdiocese of Monaco and speaker of the Roca Team matches, editor’s note). “

A show which will mobilize a team of 5 to 6 people and which will therefore be 100% Monegasque.

Ecological commitment

It will also be 100% green, which does not spoil the party when we know the sovereign’s environmental commitments. “We continue to support the prince’s commitments for the planet, pursuit of Erwan Grimaud. For comparison, a 7-minute drone show produces 0% CO, while a 7-minute fireworks display produces 24,000 grams of CO, along with heavy and carcinogenic particles.

So of course we are not going to replace all the fireworks in the Principality, but I am convinced that drone shows will develop everywhere. In addition, the drones that we make ourselves are 100% recycled material and much smaller than average because they don’t weigh only 250 grams, so they are less dangerous in the event of an accident. “

This evening, the public present at the Attractions Fair will be able to enjoy the show in the best conditions. In addition, a secure area with sound will be reserved for the public on the north dock side of the port. A real technological challenge, this unprecedented show promises beautiful moments of emotion!

At 8 p.m.: light drone show to be seen from the port of Monaco. Free access. Wearing a mask is compulsory.
