Two taxi drivers attacked at night in Salzburg: “I need money for drugs”
A 32-year-old with a criminal record of a drug addict (13 convictions) had to sit in front of a jury’s senate (chaired by Judge Verena Wegleiter) on Tuesday because of two attacks on taxi drivers in the city of Salzburg.
The indictment ends with attempted robbery as well as accomplished robbery. According to the public prosecutor, the Austrian, who was most recently receiving emergency aid, only attacked a taxi driver in Salzburg-Gnigl on the night of May 12 and tried to snatch his wallet from him. Because of the resistance of the taxi driver, the accused fled without prey. Half an hour later, the 32-year-old attacked another taxi driver at a stand in Salzburg-Parsch. Accordingly, he is considering whether he can change 50 euros. When the taxi driver opened the passenger door, according to the prosecution, the 32-year-old hit him on the shoulder, pressed him against the car window and snatched the purse with 340 euros from the victim, represented by lawyer Stefan Launsky.
In court, the accused, who had been a drug addict since his youth, confessed: “I urgently needed money for drugs.” Both taxis were injured in the attacks. The judge adjourned the process – she has a medical expert’s report obtained on the question of whether the second victim, whose wallet was stolen, was seriously injured.
