trois jours entre cinéma et justice
The Justice and Human Rights Festival will have its first edition from November 19 to 21 at the UGC cinema in Bordeaux-center. On the program, five films followed by debates on children’s rights
Minors facing the, children in care, radicalization of adolescents: some of the subjects that will be justice from November 19 to 21 at the UGC of Bordeaux-center as part of the Justice and Human Rights Festival. This brand new event was launched by two lawyers, Jean Reynaud and Pierre Gramage, former vice-president of the Bordeaux bar. The principle is classic: each film corresponds to a theme and is followed by a debate with personalities such as Tareq Oubrou, Grand Imam of Bordeaux, or Christine Maze, lawyer and founder of the Unaccompanied Minors pole, an initiative unique in France. Details with Jean Reynaud.
Why did you choose the rights of the child as the theme of this first edition?
Because the child is the symbol of innocence and vulnerability. This theme touches everyone, and the purpose of this festival is to be as unifying as possible. We use cinema as a medium for debates because it is a medium that reaches a large audience. And in this case there are a lot of great films that include children and their rights.
Was the choice difficult?
Yes, we could also have offered “Polisse” or “Les Quatre cents coups”. Our choices follow the themes that we have defined for the debates, but they also correspond to our tastes and those of our partners. The advice of UGC managers has been invaluable.
You did not forbid yourself from sensitive subjects such as the kidnapping of minors with “Mustang” …
This film is primarily about patriarchal domination, which includes the confinement of young women and sexual abuse. And we know that these are first practiced in a family setting. It is a sensitive subject, but we must talk about sensitive subjects.
You are projecting “My Zucchini Life”. Do you also want to address young people?
Yes, although this movie cannot be seen under 8-9 years old. In the first images we still see a child losing its mother. But it’s still a great story about how he rebuilds himself in a home. And the stop motion animation is extraordinary. For this screening, people who have purchased the five-film pass will receive a free seat for one child.
Why did you choose to organize this festival at the same time as the one in Pessac?
Because we wanted it to coincide with the International Day of the Rights of the Child on November 20. But we are already thinking about a different date for the second edition. And maybe also a different formula. Why not with a partnership with a theater? Or a short film competition for young people?
