The figure: 800,000 euros, the cost of broadcasting Euroleague matches in Monaco
Monegasque news broadcasts on the territory of the Principality (2 square kilometers) the Euroleague matches of the Roca Team for an investment of 800,000 euros.
Geneviève Berti, the director of communication for the princely government, who is also a member of the board of directors of the principality club, explains the process for Monaco Weekly.
“We said to ourselves that we had to make these moments accessible to the community of Monaco fans. And this, as easily as possible. At the start, we wanted to broadcast at least the away games (…) Basically, the idea was not really to become a broadcaster, but rather to enter into a partnership with the French broadcaster. But very quickly, the EuroLeague told us that the discussions with RMC Sport were in bad shape. And that therefore, understand, there would be no broadcaster at all. So, little by little, the idea is to buy the rights, which are quite drastically restricted to the territory of Monaco. ”
The investment is 800,000 euros, 400,000 euros for participation in production costs, and 400,000 euros for broadcasting rights. Commentary is provided by David Cozette, who for years has been the voice of basketball in France, and former international Ali Traoré.
“I’m not saying that they do it for the beauty of the gesture, but they also do it because they are two lovers of the basket. They come with their freshness and their envy. And the main thing is that it costs nothing. So all their costs are taken care of. Afterwards, we agreed on an extremely reasonable envelope. We are neither RMC Sport nor Canal + ”
For which audiences?
“We were aiming for 50% of the park in connections. At the moment, we haven’t reached it yet. But we think the more the season goes, the more it will go up.Of course, you have to ask yourself the question [du renouvellement — NDLR] if we do not achieve this goal. There we learn by walking. We are convinced that this is a real service for our community, and that there is real interest. But it will have to be demonstrated ”.
