Prague – The second round of testing on covid-19 in schools on Monday, November 8, revealed 3423 positive cases. There were 2,716 cases in primary schools, mostly in the districts of Olomouc, Šumperk and Strakonice and least in Prague and České Budějovice. At secondary schools and higher vocational schools, there were 707 infected, the highest share in the districts of Vyškov, Přerov and Český Krumlov, the least in the district of Praha-západ and without seizures in the district of Rokycany. The health ministry reported in a report today, with 93 percent of the schools tested showing results. In total, about 495,000 pupils were tested according to the data office. The proportion of positive samples was around 0.7 percent.
The second stage of testing was used by 2054 primary and 606 secondary and higher vocational schools in 31 districts. “We can already say that one of the causes of the spread of the disease in children and students is contacts in schools, which were detected in approximately 43 to 48 percent of cases detected, and subsequently in 50 to 55 cases the source of the infection is not entirely clear, but may be for example negotiate leisure or leisure activities, “said Chief Hygienist Pavla Svrčinová.
The first round of November 1 in eight testing districts revealed 699 cases of infection among about 121,000 children. The share of positives was less than 0.6 percent. The number of cases per 100,000 tested increased per week in most districts, smaller in the districts of České Budějovice, Prostějov and Přerov at primary schools in the districts of Opava and Brno-venkov at secondary schools.
The children were tested again in 22 districts and in Prague on Monday, November 15, the results are not yet available, because a positive antigen test must be confirmed by PCR. It will be tested in all schools on Monday, November 22 and 29. Pupils who have been vaccinated against covid-19 may not take part in the testing. At the age of 12 to 15, this is about 33 percent of the population, or about 174,000 people with completed vaccinations. Including children with a reservation period or vaccinations started, there are over 41 percent. About 100,000 older students aged 16 to 17 are vaccinated.
If students refuse to test, they must wear a respirator or a 15-year-old respirator for the duration of their stay at the school. The obligation applies both indoors and outdoors, if it is not possible to keep a distance of at least 1.5 meters from other people.
