Swerl Coffee Club in Falkenberg, Sweden
Sprudge Maps was launched in 2020 as a free service for coffee shops to list its own user-submitted, user-controlled information. Unlike Yelp, Google or similar listing services, on Sprudge Maps, cafes themselves handle every part of the listing process and can easily update information they want for everything from equipment to hours to daily specials. We think of Sprudge Maps as an open, ongoing collaboration between Sprudge and the café world – this project is 100% free to use thanks to support from Pacific Barista Series and La Marzocco.
After a successful public beta – with almost 700 lists worldwide! – we will move to a version 1.0 of Sprudge Maps here at the end of 2022, with improved usability, regularly updated collaborations with Apple Maps, and these here every week or so Sprudge Maps Spotlights. Let’s dive in today and learn more about Swerl Coffee Club, a charming coffee project in Falkenberg, Sweden.

Introduce yourself to our readers – tell us about your café!
Swerl Coffee Club started as a rolling coffee shop, custom built by us, in a cream blue Mercedes Benz van from 1972.
Swerl, which was founded by me, Beatriz, and my partner Daniel, in the coastal town of Falkenberg in Sweden, is a combination of everything we think is best in life. Really good coffee, good breakfast and meaningful relationships are what we hope to achieve day by day.
Every month we look for the best specialty coffee from European roasteries and serve it with care in our coffee bar, together with gluten-free cakes made from our own ground flour. We strive to always leave you happier than you came.
What equipment do you use in your store?
We serve espresso from a group of three La Marzocco Strada EP that we had to lift into the bus with a forklift when we rebuilt the van and that we will probably never be able to get out of the bus. 😉 There are two mills for espresso, both are Mythos One (one from Victoria Arduino and the other from Nuova Simonelli), for all other types of coffee grinding there are Mahlkönig EK43. We mostly do batch brewing because we can achieve beautiful extractions with 3Temp Hipster, which allows us to customize each recipe in detail. When hand brewing, the Origami Dripper is our favorite, using one Acaia scale and Fellow ECG Stagg.
Which fryer or fries do you serve?
We actually have our own subscription where we send out personally cured specialty coffee from two new roasteries every month to our subscribers. This allows us to rotate the roasters and the coffee a lot in the coffee bar. Some of our absolute favorites at the moment are Manhattan Coffee Roasters from Rotterdam, 19 grams from Berlin, Friedhats from Amsterdam, and The coffee collective from Copenhagen. Koppi from Helsingborg is of course a winner through the ages!
We are currently opening our own roastery and starting to roast one Giesen W15, as soon as our own roasted coffee will be served in the coffee bar along with all the other fantastic roasteries.
How is the area where you live? What other cool things are there nearby?
Our Mercedes bus is right on the beach – we have our own small garden and patio where customers can socialize with a really nice chill atmosphere. The beach is definitely the most attractive feature of the place, but there are also some good places to eat, such as Beach House by Globalize which makes the worst burgers in the region and of course Little Naples, which serves the most authentic Naples-style pizzas. in Sweden.
Did you shut down during a mandatory shutdown of the Corona virus, and if so, for how long?
There were no shutdowns in Sweden, and since we serve coffee from a mobile coffee bar, we were thankfully not particularly affected. Unfortunately, some of our friends who had physical spaces were a little more affected.
How has the Corona virus affected the daily work in your café?
The cleaning routines were already in place, so due to Sweden’s easy policies, what we had most to do was find a clear way to keep distance between customers and create a safe environment for everyone.
What’s cool or unique about your café that you want people to know?
Swerl is on wheels. We love the freedom and flexibility that comes with being mobile – in addition to the Mercedes bus converted into a coffee shop, our roastery will soon be built into a mobile container. We are all about letting the good coffee roll!
Is there a community organization or charity you would like to call out as part of this function?
Yes, Bean Voyage does an incredible job in Costa Rica with women’s empowerment in coffee. They have a human approach to the work they do, which creates real value for the participants. Under COVID, they not only found a way to keep their work going, but also created relief packages for the needy in society.
Thanks!
