Prague Zoo: Four Brazilian martens were born
“Normally, females give birth to one or two young, quadrupeds are very unusual in this species,“Said Pavel Brandl, the curator of mammals at the Prague Zoo.
Three females and one male were born to a six-year-old female and an eleven-year-old male. He came to the zoo in the Czech capital in 2011 from the Swiss zoo Papiliorama. In the past, a screen prevented visitors from watching the young. It served to keep the mother calm. It has now been removed.
Active during the day
While most marten beasts are associated at night, tayra is also active during the day. According to the breeders, visitors can observe the pups after 10:00 and around 15:00, when the pups are fed. Now, according to the zoo, they live not only through breast milk, but also through various fruits, rats, chickens and quails.
The Tayras are slender weasels from Central and South America. They are characterized by a long bushy tail, which measures up to 40 centimeters and a lighter coat on the head. The Tay measures about 56 to 68 centimeters and weighs about five kilograms.
Prague Zoo has been breeding tayers since 2004. The first successful breeding of the species was successful in 2011. At that time it was the first tiger cub bred in the Czech Republic.
In the Prague Zoo, visitors can watch tayra cubs or Brazilian martens. At the end of August, four beasts of this beast were born in the zoo. (November 16, 2021)
