Out of frustration, 51 cars in Innsbruck, some badly damaged
The 43-year-old is said to have damaged dozens of parked cars in the past few weeks. He partially confessed. He gave private problems as a motive.
Innsbruck – General frustration and a previous dispute: These were apparently the trigger for an extensive series of property damage in Innsbruck. Now the Kripo could clarify the case and investigate a suspect. The local has partly confessed to the acts of vandalism. However, the investigations are not yet complete.
The series began on November 2nd: between 7 and 8 p.m., 37 parked cars were damaged in Wörndlestrasse and the surrounding area (Reichenau district). The unknown initial perpetrator used a sharp object with which he scratched the paintwork along the entire length of the vehicle. The holes he drilled in the sheet metal of some cars were even worse. “The total damage is over 100,000 euros,” says Christoph Kirchmair, head of the Innsbruck criminal police. But that was just the beginning. As a result, another 14 owners reported some massive paint damage on their vehicles. The cars were parked in Wilten, most of them on Maximilianstrasse.
There were further acts of vandalism a week ago. Around 6:20 p.m. seven cars were damaged in Innerkoflerstrasse, and an hour later another twelve in Fennerstrasse. At this point in time, the police’s investigations were already in full swing: “We had received information from witnesses,” says Kirchmair. With this investigative approach, the police officers were able to investigate a suspect together with colleagues from the Pradl and Inner City inspections. The 43-year-old from Innsbruck is already well known in the field. So the man could be quickly found out.
The Innsbrucker has already made a confession during the interrogations. The accused has already admitted the 51 damage to property in Wörndlestrasse and Maximilianstrasse. The acts of vandalism in Innerkoflerstrasse and Fennerstrasse, however, are not. “It is still being checked whether these crimes can also be assigned to the suspect,” said the chief of police. The Innsbrucker was taken to the prison.
With another series – five driving school cars were badly damaged – the 43-year-old should not have anything to do with.
