McDonald’s de la Guillotière stops selling on site due to insecurity
The fast food indicates that it will no longer welcome customers in the establishment, and that it will only maintain the take-out sale. A new signal of growing insecurity in this district of Guillotière, while a neighbor has decided to close earlier for the same reasons.
The Guillotière district, in the heart of Lyon, continues to sink into the problems of insecurity. A few days after the announcement of the Casino supermarket closing at 5 p.m. to avoid problems, the neighboring Mc Donalds announced that it was closing its doors to the public at 3 p.m. The managers of the two brands were received this Tuesday, November 16 by the Rhône prefecture, to discuss the problems of insecurity.
Commercial closures
It is a simple sign, laconic on the window of Mc Donald’s, which illustrates the authorities’ overcoming in the face of insecurity: “the restaurant opens its doors from 11 am to 3 pm and is only available to take away.” Evening orders are still possible, but only through an outside counter. Located on Place Gabriel Péri, the Fast-food restaurant is located at the epicenter of the neighborhood’s difficulties. Next door, the Casino supermarket, overwhelmed by multiple attacks in front of the sign, chose to close its doors at 5 p.m. rather than 7 p.m. on October 25. In quick succession, two new signs of deterioration of the climate around the square.

Place Gabriel Péri, epicenter of unrest
Place Gabriel Péri, in the heart of the popular district, has become in a few months the meeting place of various communities, and of multiple illegal trafficking and sale on the black market. Numerous acts of crime, theft and assault have been reported for several months. A week before the announcement of these early closures, members of the Asian community, whose neighborhood touches the Place Gabriel Péri, demanded more authority from the public authorities, while their businesses suffered a loss of turnover linked to the climatic degradation. If the police presence is more visible, and the interventions more frequent, the authorities have not, for the time being, managed to stop the dynamic.
A plan announced in July
The Rhône prefecture received, this Tuesday afternoon, the leaders of the two signs of the place to take stock of the measures taken against insecurity in the district. This is not the first time that such a meeting has taken place. In addition, the city of Lyon announced last July an action plan to “appease” the neighborhood, in particular by increasing the number of police officers. Several operations, which the authorities do not fail to publicize, have hired national and municipal police, CRS, border police (PAF), Customs and DDSP around Place Gabriel-Péri, to carry out investigations. arrests. This Tuesday afternoon, a new large-scale police action was carried out to evacuate the square. Not sure that these sporadic actions will be enough to appease the neighborhood.
