Malta U-21 completed their commitments for the year on Tuesday with a convincing 2-0 win over Northern Ireland at Mourneview Park. The side put on a composite display to turn fortunes after previous bruises against Spain’s group leaders.
For Malta, the confrontation brought back fond memories after a 4-1 victory in the first round at the Centenary Stadium two months ago. However, as coach Gilbert Agius had predicted, the Northern Irish were out for revenge.
The Greens have released a squad of players who trade in England and Ireland, compared to Malta whose squad also required Division One players – a game that was on paper that was it will be a tough confrontation.
