The black dresses denounce an attack of unprecedented gravity against an essential principle of the rule of law and democracy
They were about 150 lawyers, Tuesday, November 16, at midday, on the steps of the judicial court of Bordeaux to express their anger at the bill which provides for exceptions to professional secrecy in matters of offenses relating to cases of tax fraud , influence peddling or corruption. The black dresses intend to express their attachment to what constitutes “the foundation of our profession which is the confidence of our customers”.
“A serious impairment”
President Christophe Bayle and vice-president Caroline Laveissière, at the head, recalled that “professional secrecy is a right but also a duty, but it is in danger. The damage thus caused is particularly serious. Without the protection of secrecy, the functions of defense and counsel cannot exist ”.
The government will, after discussions between the Keeper of the Seals, the chairman of the Senate Law Committee and the President of the Assembly Law Committee, table an amendment aimed at confirming the possibility of the president’s presence in search. The announcement of this amendment comes just before the final vote on the bill in the National Assembly, which will be followed by that of the Senate on Thursday, November 18.
