Index – Economy – Taxi drivers in Budapest want an immediate increase of at least 18 percent
An immediate tariff increase of at least 18 percent would be justified in the capital, according to taxi organizations. On the other hand, the Budapest city government sees that the emergency legislation does not allow for an increase in the fee set by the local government, writes Világgazdaság.
Zoltán Metál, the president of the National Taxi Association (OTSZ), told the newspaper that there is a dispute between the parties regarding the legal interpretation of the cited government decree, therefore they requested that a joint resolution be requested from the government office.
He indicated that he sees no chance of a tariff adjustment until January 1, but in the meantime, the parties will set up two working committees to work out exactly.
He also said that the leaders of the capital have been provided with a background material that includes the change in the cost of taxi drivers over the years, and on this basis they consider a minimum 18 percent tariff increase to be justified.
Zoltán Metál said earlier that I would like to seriously raise the current prices applied since 2018.
Upon requesting the paper, the capital confirmed its position that the fee set by the municipality could not be increased under the current government decree. They added that negotiations on a toll increase between the city administration and taxi organizations are underway, and the results will be announced only after they are completed.
Earlier, the Index also wrote that the taxi drivers in Budapest could not keep the officially set prices even with the constantly rising fuel prices.
