CHRONICLE AND COMMENT
There is a decidedly less British weather than in the morning and in the afternoon to welcome San Marino and England on the farewell evening from the European Qualifiers. At the Stadium there is really no shortage of ideal conditions for an evening of football, which the FSGC also dedicates to the celebration of its 90 years by making the national team players wear the special uniform inspired by the colors of the original flag of the Republic. The nearly 1500 who arrived from England sing at breakneck speed right from the warm-up phase, and at the kick-off they immediately push the white-clad guests towards Benedictine’s door. England hangs above all on the left where Saka accelerates them, dangers and angles like the one that Maguire uses to take the National Three Lions advantage in the 5 ‘: perfect detachment of the Manchester United central on the Phoden cross and the race unlocked in the roar of the fans who crowd and color the south stand. At 11, Rossi’s perfect positioning is needed to block Smith Rowe’s header on Saka’s cross – in an involuntary slide. San Marino tries to breathe by exploiting the physicality of Nanni, who at 13 ‘is good at getting fouled and winning a free-kick from which three crosses in sequence by the hosts originate, all controlled by the visiting defenders, certainly not in defect of kilos and centimeters. At the quarter of an hour Saka rages to the left then focuses and discovers a weak right that meets the fortuitous and unfortunate fortune of Fabbri, decisive in putting out the Benedictines who were leaning on the opposite side. The far end is also engaged by Bellingham, whose blow from the outside is well controlled.
At 24 ‘, another acceleration from Saka to the left and another cross that Phoden tries to turn into an anthology network with a scissor kick that goes out. Not without football AR arbitration, however: he is recalled by his colleagues at the VAR and after a quick on field review he decrees the penalty for the hands of Rossi, who is also booked. He beats Kane, who displaces Benedictines by starting a test as an authentic showman. After Saka’s flying attempt, blocked by Benedettini, the champion of Totthenam – fighting with Lewandowski for the top of the group bomber – returns to mark using the cross from the left by Smith Rowe: ball shot with precision in the corner and brace for the bomber, also chasing the podium in the all-time ranking of the English national team, at that moment three points away. Gary Lineker’s goal (third place) is deepened in the 39th minute when Kane returns from the spot for D’Addario’s hands, this time sanctioned without the aid of technology. The ball is sent violently under the crossing and England are already improving themselves from the first leg at Wembley, which ended 4-0. In the meantime, however, San Marino was seen with a nice comfort between the two points, accompanied by the hopeful “oooh” of the whole north stand, the one occupied by (many) home fans: Hirsch sets up a good to the limit for Nanni , who coordinates with his right foot (not his foot) and allocate the ball to the corner, where Ramsdale manages to reach the length. The result is a corner on which the Arsenal goalkeeper has to intervene with his fists, not without some trouble.
In the final, England resumed their offensive theme and in the 42nd minute touches the result again with the unleashed Kane, who takes over from Alexander-Arnold in the area and, after a short slalom, places the ball in the corner for the fourth personal goal, which is worth the long-awaited engagement with Lineker. At this point, the thought of the Hurricane cannot already be turned to second place, occupied by Sir Bobby Charlton and just one distance away.
In the second half, however, it is not Kane who makes 7-0 but Smith Rowe, he in the first hurray with the National Three Lions. Meanwhile Franco Varrella has played three changes in one: out of D’Addario, Fabio Tomassini and Hirsch for Censoni, Alessandro Golinucci and Vitaioli, who makes 71 in the national team, getting another step closer to the record holder Andy Selva (73). The assist 7-0 was put by Abraham, at the beginning of the second half and immediately dangerous with a lob too much in the face to face with Benedettini. San Marino tries a break with the escape of Enrico Golinucci, accompanied by the encouragement of the public but too tired at the moment of sinking into the area. It is still the Libertas midfielder, on 67 ‘, looking for the goal from outside the box, missing it by a few meters. Shortly after, another tile for San Marino: Rossi hooks Gallagher from behind and takes the second yellow card of the evening. From the same punishment that she does with it, Mings screws herself well and puts her close to the opposite passage. England returned to hammering and scoring with Bellingham, whose winning blow was canceled by the VAR due to an Abraham foul. The Roma striker makes up for it a little later: it is he, in turn, who puts the signature on 9-0 – this time valid – and shortly afterwards also the brace, only to be denied the goal by the referee, who recognizes it a foul. Meanwhile England had already met the double figures with the winning conclusion of Saka, the crowning of an over-the-top performance. San Marino ends with cramps but in any case with the embrace of the home crowd, to whom the Titans give an appointment for 2022.
