Everyone to Prague. Czechs travel to the capital 40 percent more than a year ago
The number of domestic tourists is growing in the capital. In the third quarter of this year, 440,612 Czech tourists arrived, which is 40 percent more. Compared to 2019 before the covid-19 pandemic, this year it was 139,438 more. This is according to data from the city company Prague City Tourism (PCT), which is in charge of tourism.
The share of the number of domestic tourists in Prague before the coronavirus pandemic was around 15 percent, and the metropolis has long been behind other European cities. For example, in Vienna, Austrians accounted for 21.5 percent of the number of tourists, and in Warsaw it was 64 percent of domestic tourists.
“In the third vartals of the last two years to increase the number of domestic guests. It is one of the strategic goals of our new concept of inbound tourism, which it will continue to support, “said PCT Chairman FrantiĊĦek Cipro.
The impact on the increase in the number of tourists is influenced by the above-mentioned campaign In Prague as at Home, which attracted tens of thousands of Czechs to the metropolis. “Our intention is to gradually increase the share of domestic tourists, as is the case in other European capitals. It is a group of tourists who know the local rules and I believe that they will return to the metropolis, “added Cipro.
From July to the end of August, tourists in the campaign receive special vouchers for each night spent at the hotel, upon receipt of discounts or admission to selected museums, galleries or zoos.
The PCT launched a tourist campaign in the fall. In the first month of operation, 223 million users in 11 European countries saw their ads. Most PCT advertises in Germany.
