Dozens of administrators in the capital take care of the greenery. They collect data into their own databases, which cannot communicate with each other.
The most important information will therefore be passed on to the individual city districts and organizations into a unified system, administered by the Institute of Planning and Development of the Capital City of Prague. m Prague (IPR). The metropolis will be able to better city-wide projects and increase resilience to climate change coordination. The data will also be freely available to the public.
Systematic green management is a basic condition for successful care of the environment in the city. The City Hall, the Technical Administration of Communications and the Institute of Planning and Development have therefore agreed to create a unified system of shared green data. Data on trees, green areas or watercourses will be collected. For example, trees are not just about location and species, but also about their basic parameters.
“The principle of data-driven city management is constantly expanding into new areas, such as blue-green infrastructure. I believe that a system of shared data on greenery will help make the care of the environment in our city more efficient. At the same time, I welcome the fact that information about greenery will be published in the form of open data, which can further serve as a basis for additional application to support community greenery projects, “says the mayor of Prague, Zdeněk Hřib.
“The proposed solution through a uniform format and content standard is an efficient, modern and technically undemanding solution. The newly created system will enable better management across organizations and the city, maintenance and planning of green infrastructure development, “says the first deputy mayor of the capital. m Prague Petr Hlaváček.
The key partner for data acquisition and use will be the boroughs, which also manage the green infrastructure. For example, the Forests of the Capital City of Prague. All organizations process their green databases with similar information. However, their technological solutions differ significantly and somewhere these lists are created by external companies. The unified system will share the data needed to solve city-wide problems.
“In order to be able to take good care of greenery, we must first know what condition it is in. Therefore, the Technical Administration of Roads now owns information systems on the condition of trees. Thanks to this, we can help those green managers who do not have the appropriate tool for collecting data on trees and their condition immediately and at no additional cost. In any case, for administrators who use their own system today, unification will not be a burden thanks to a clever technical solution, where the Institute of Planning and Development of Prague can “extract” the necessary data from various software, “says the Deputy Mayor. m of Prague for transport Adam Scheinherr.
“Prague is one of the greenest cities in the world. I believe that sharing data on the state of greenery will help individual organizations and city districts to maintain and maintain greenery in Prague even more, “says the mayor of Prague. m of Prague for the Environment Petr Hlubuček.
The project was approved by the city council. The commissioning of the first basic application is scheduled for February next year. Gradually, city districts and organizations will be added, which will be obliged to update the data regularly.
“The data will be made available through an information system, which already stores a lot of data about the city’s infrastructure. We plan to create web map applications within our geoportal and other platforms, publication of open data on greenery or connection of data with a 3D model of Prague, “adds IPR director Ondřej Boháč
