Berlin Senate delivers 2G-Plus regulation
In view of new record incidences, Berlin’s Governing Mayor Müller is urging increased corona measures. The Senate is ready to pass a resolution according to which a 2G-Plus regulation can come into force as early as next week.
According to the ruling mayor Michael Müller (SPD), the Berlin Senate is providing increased corona measures for the capital. A 2G-Plus scheme should be introduced in Berlin for the coming winter, said Müller on Tuesday in Berlin. The new regulation could come into force as early as next week.
A prerequisite for this, however, is a federal decision to transfer the competence to introduce further corona measures to the federal states after the “epidemic situation of national scope” has expired. A submission for this decision has already been launched, so he expects a quick decision, said Müller.
The federal and state governments will meet on Thursday for the next Prime Minister’s Conference.
Vaccinated and convalescent – with tests, masks and transported
While only vaccinated and convalescent people would be admitted with 2G, 2G plus could also mean that distances are also maintained or masks are worn and negative tests are presented.
“We are now preparing in the Senate so that we have an additional instrument for the winter months to react to the situation,” said Müller. Institutions and their visitors should receive additional security. The exact design is still open. “We agreed today that we want to formulate a plus.”
Müller emphasized that in view of the increased corona incidences, the countries need new instruments to contain the pandemic. This included distance and hygiene measures, contact restrictions and alcohol bans.
2G regulation in force since Monday
Stricter corona rules in many areas of public life, which the Senate had decided the previous week, have only been in effect in Berlin since Monday. Only those who have been vaccinated and recovered (2G) have access to restaurants, cinemas, theaters, museums, galleries or concert halls, but not those who have not been vaccinated (3G).
This also applies to sports halls, swimming pools, leisure facilities, amusement arcades, hairdressing and beauty salons, fitness and dance studios. This does not apply to people who have not yet reached the age of 18 and those who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.
