The young Indian shuttle Taarini wins triple-crown in Sweden
Mumbai, November 15 (IANS): India’s young shuttle skier Taarini Suri completed a hat trick of triumphs by winning the gold medals in singles and doubles for girls under 15 and mixed doubles under 15 in the Swedish Youth Games 2021 in Malmö, Sweden, on Sunday.
This was Taarini’s second triumph in Europe in recent weeks. The 14-year-old Mumbai girl, who trains with Hufrish Nariman at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy at the Cricket Club of India (CCI), had taken three kronor in the FZ FORZA Finnish Youth 2021 Badminton Championship in Finland, last month. Taarini had won Gir’s ‘Under-15 singles title and Girls’ Doubles Under-17 and Mixed Doubles Under-17 titles.
In the singles final, Taarini Suri, the shared third-fourth seed, outscored Sweden’s Anvita Harakamani in straight matches 21-9, 21-10 with a degree of comfort of just 21 minutes, according to information reaching here.
Previously, Taarini and the Swedish partner Matilda Ståhle, the top-seeded pair, combined effectively to assert supremacy over the second-seeded Danish pair Matilde Moesgaard and Athene Lyduch Thornild, and won 21-16, 21-14 in 32 minutes.
Taarini completed her big treble when she together with Ukraine’s Fedir Tiurin defeated the Danish combination Eline Landsvig and Frederik Hinding 21-14, “1-16.
“I’m very happy because I worked really hard. Honestly, I did not think I would be so successful and win all these events. But what makes me even happier is that even though I played with a different set of players in the doubles, I managed to adapt quickly and even though we did not train as a team, I could perfectly combine “with them”, Taarini said in a text message.
Taarini finished with a record with all wins and did not lose a single match in all three competitions.
