Strasbourg Court postpones hearing in Eastern Ukraine conflict case until January 26
AMSTERDAM (UrduPoint News / Sputnik – November 16, 2021) The European Court of Human Rights has postponed until January 26 a hearing on a lawsuit arising from the conflict in eastern Ukraine, including the crash in 2014 from a Malaysian airliner.
The admissibility hearing in the Ukraine and the Netherlands v Russia case has been set for November 24, but a recent withdrawal of the ad hoc judge very late in the proceedings resulted in its postponement.
“The president considered, given the very advanced stage of the procedure, that it was inevitable that the hearing scheduled for November 24, 2021 be postponed, and decided to re-register for January 26, 2022”, can we read in a press release.
The case includes two Ukraine v Russia cases linked to allegations by Kiev that Moscow violated basic human rights during the conflict in the separatist provinces of eastern Ukraine and an alleged abduction of orphaned Ukrainian children in 2014.
The Netherlands v Russia case is linked to the crash of flight MH17, in which the Dutch government alleges Moscow is responsible for the murder of 298 people on board and failed to conduct an investigation. Russia denies having played a role in the air disaster.
