Salzburg City Senate approves budget for 2022
Citizens’ lists and libertarians voted against the budget plan in the Senate. In the coming year, around 60 million euros will be invested in the project budget to stimulate the economy. The largest item is almost 26 million euros for the City of Salzburg Immobilien Gesellschaft, which will use it to implement projects such as the renovation of schools, after-school care centers and kindergartens, museums, the ice arena or residential and commercial buildings. Investments in the renovation of the Salzburg State Theater or the planning of the S-Link urban regional railway are also planned.
Money for culture, sport and social issues
“Because of Corona, we are still in the worst crisis since World War II. We are investing, but when do we have to put the brakes on in order to be able to finance important projects in the transport, cultural and school sectors in the next few years “, Said Mayor Harald Preuner (ÖVP) after the Budget Senate in a broadcast. The 2022 budget has a clear social-democratic signature, said Vice-Mayor Bernhard Auinger (SPÖ) with satisfaction. There is more money for culture, sport and social affairs.
Freedom reject budget
The Freedom Party announces the budget in the Senate as well as the list of citizens. It was “a socio-political catastrophe,” said FP club chairman Andreas Reindl. He criticized fee increases and called for a salary increase for employees in the nursing and kindergartens, but failed to find a majority. For the municipal council, in which the budget is finally decided, KPÖ-plus and NEOS have announced that they will not agree to the budget. The Salt List, on the other hand, has signaled its approval, according to the city’s broadcast.
