ROME

Public green in Rome, contracts to private individuals. The map of the interventions

Sugar Mizzy November 15, 2021

Higher and taller weeds along the roadsides, invading sidewalks or even sprouting from long-lasting holes in the middle of the roadway. Not to mention that mix of wild vegetation and leaves from trees that, especially in this period, obstructs manholes and drains, making the city even more vulnerable to waves of bad weather. It is one of the most common and embarrassing images of urban decay for the capital, widespread both in the central areas and in the suburbs: from Prati to Tor Bella Monaca, the panorama is similar in all the neighborhoods.

Public green, surrendered by Ama

Now the Capitol wants to run for cover, entrusting to private individuals that road mowing and weeding service thatLoves he gave up at the end of 2020, after years of not so exciting results. The municipal company carried out this objective in an extra-Tari regime (ie as a result of special agreements with Palazzo Senatorio), but from 1 January it no longer deals with it. In the meantime, the municipalities have available to put a piece, with resources to keep us to the bone, and the junta has allocated extraordinary funds, with disappointing results, waiting to find a structural solution to the problem.

RELIANCE
The municipal administration therefore issued a tender to entrust the service to external firms. The contract is divided into sixteen lots – one for the territory of each municipality, plus a specific one for the main roads – for a total amount of 13 million euros: it will have a duration of three years and will concern the removal of weeds. , but not the maintenance of roadways, nor the care of vegetation from the point of view of visibility and road safety. This morning the judging commission will meet in public session to gather verification of offers after meeting regularly subject to in-depth analysis, that the first assignments have been stopped by the Tar, with the hope of the game playing in a short time.

THE PRIORITIES
Once the new service has started, it will be necessary to intervene immediately on the most urgent situations. If in the central municipalities – I and II – it is estimated that the phenomenon of weeds affects only 35 percent of the roads, in the other areas of the Eternal City it ranges from 40 percent of V (Pigneto-Centocelle-Prenestino) to 70 percent of the municipalities IX (Eur), X (Ostia-Acilia), XIV (Monte Mario) and XV (Cassia-Tor di Quinto). In total, as stated in the tender documents, 3,891 kilometers of municipal roads and 1,284 kilometers of main roads will have to be cleared of weeds, for a total of over five thousand kilometers. We will start from the streets most affected by weeds in the historic center, Ostiense, Cassia, Tor di Quinto, Trionfale, Centocelle, Colli Aniene, Appio, Casal Bertone, Eur, Casilino, Ostia.
SKILLS
The service includes grubbing-up, growth control, weeding, mowing and removal of weeds present in the streets, squares, sidewalks, paved areas inside the traffic dividers, in the parking areas, in correspondence with the works of art. roads, in the areas adjacent to city roads and in general in public and private areas for public use throughout the municipal territory, including connecting ramps to the roads, squares and underpasses. The removal of leaves on the other hand, as the Capitol specifies, “falls within the scope of sweeping activities and therefore in the services covered by Tari”. As if to say: Ama must continue to take care of it.
