Goalkeeper trouble for the Netherlands – expiration of the first choice Bijlow before the Norway match
It is not known what is wrong with the 23-year-old Feyenoord goalkeeper, who has guarded the Netherlands’ goals in all the last six qualifying matches.
Tim Krul has been called up in the squad to replace him. The experienced Norwich goalkeeper played the first three qualifying matches in March, but after wearing the bench in the September and October matches, he asked to drop the November meeting to concentrate on the club team Norwich.
Jasper Cillessen and Mark Flekken are the other two goalkeepers in the Dutch squad. None of them have played in the qualifiers, and they only have two and three matches on the bench, respectively.
Louis van Gaal recently said that Flekken is the second choice behind Bijlow, but the question is whether he uses a debutant in such an important match as Tuesday.
Cillessen is back in the squad after he lost this summer’s European Championship play-off due to a positive corona test. Joël Drommel was in the squad earlier this autumn, but he is ill now.
