Action of the Church against Poverty
society
In the city of Salzburg, six Salzburg parishes are participating in the Ar.MUT share project. Donations of money are distributed to the needy in the city, where the bare essentials for life are often missing. And due to Corona, the needy will be significantly more.
World Poor’s Day took place for the fifth time today. An action that Pope Francis launched. For those affected, it was a matter of buying a new washing machine, winter boots and jackets for the children or a new bed. Have the needy on the weekend at the selected rectory in Salzburg city, because they need financial help for specific costs. A committee decided on the support options and then transferred a sum of money to the person concerned.
Pandemic exacerbates poverty
According to Thomas Neureiter from the municipal parish of Mülln, the rush of people seeking help has almost doubled since the pandemic began: “We have noticed a significant increase in the number of people in need over the past two years. With this campaign we are reaching around 200 families in Salzburg. ”In 2020, ArMutteile helped over 1,800 people seeking help with a total of over € 150,000, as well as more than 6,000 food parcels.
Christmas promotion
According to the Salzburg debt counseling service, around 76,000 people in the state of Salzburg are currently at risk of poverty. Christmas means a lot of stress for many of these people. Gifts are difficult or impossible to buy due to financial needs. Single parents then repeatedly switch to installment payments, describes Inge Honisch from the Salzburg debt counseling service.
To help weak weak families around Christmas, there is again a Christmas campaign this year. The donations will be used for gifts for children:
