Toulouse. A guide dress up a list of “must see” places
German journalist Hilke Maunder published the guide “111 places in Toulouse not to be missed”. This book aims to offer a different approach to the Pink City.
“I want to show unusual things in well-known places, but also things that are not in the guides. Things in places with bad reputations. Thus German journalist Hilke Maunder explains the ambition of the guide she wrote, “111 places in Toulouse not to be missed”.
In this book, the reader will find for example a page devoted to the castle of Reynerie. “There is a love story around this castle,” the journalist delighted.
“Far from the outskirts, surrounded by industrial zones, prefabricated buildings and urban deserts, Reynerie, in the Grand-Mirail district, has a bad reputation. However, just two minutes walk from the metro is hidden an authentic Toulouse madness, the castle of Reynerie ”, it is written at the beginning of the presentation of this place, the construction of which was ordered by Guillaume Dubarry.
In this guide to the city of Toulouse, Hilke Maunder also quotes the clock with the 24-hour dial, located rue d’Alsace-Lorraine, in the heart of Toulouse. And laughs: “I can’t figure out how to tell the time on it.”
One of his favorites remains the Matou, the poster museum. “It is the only museum dedicated to advertising,” notes the author. “I was expecting something big chosen… It’s run by a small team and I find their commitment remarkable.”
A guide to Toulouse that isn’t just for tourists
To the question “who is this guide for?” Hilke Maunder replies that “it is of course for tourists, but it can also interest locals. Often, we live in a neighborhood that we don’t take the time to visit ”.
But how does a German journalist find herself writing a guide to Toulouse? “I am a journalist for traditional newspapers. I travel a lot as a correspondent and I start writing guides, ”says Hilke Maunder.
She has written about Australia where she lived in the eighties. His first guide to France came out in 2001. As a journalist, Hilke Maunder was particularly interested in the aeronautics sector. This is how she discovered the Pink City: “I fell in love with this city, and I met my daughter’s father there.”
