Experts agree: Portugal is even entering the 5th wave of the pandemic
The cases of covid-19 are different in Portugal. On the last day, 1483 new infections were registered and 15 people died. It is the highest number of fatalities since the end of August.
With more than a thousand new cases for the sixth consecutive day, it is increasingly certain that the country is entering the fifth wave of the pandemic.
The new wave may have less impact, especially on mortality and hospitalizations, because of vaccines, however, this protection is not total.
Sound the alerts in hospitals
Hospitals are already feeling the pressure and, with a shortage of personnel, there is greater attendance at the emergency room.
The cold, flu and respiratory illnesses are leading more and more people to seek medical help.
There are also more covid-19 patients needing hospitalization: Saturday to Sunday, there were 41 more.
In Coimbra, for example, it was already necessary to expand the space for patients with the new coronavirus.
An aggravation that is not surprising
This rise was already expected, after the lifting of restrictions, which is reflected in the October figures.
To avoid major restrictions on Christmas, experts advocate a quick tightening of protective measures.
Vaccinate is the priority
The process should speed up, with vaccination centers made available every day.
This weekend was an Open House for those over 80, who can be vaccinated without an appointment.
