“Brand” in the blu-Bad: Potsdam Orcas convinces against White Sharks Hannover
Konstantin Hüppe’s description suggested a natural spectacle. “Everyone burned in the water,” he said on Saturday evening. Physically difficult to do, but what the water polo player of the Potsdam orcas described was very true. With an impressively fiery and committed performance, the Brandenburgers won their Bundesliga home opener this season with 15: 8 (3: 1, 5: 1, 2: 3, 5: 3) against the White Sharks Hanover.

The hosts in the blu bathroom defied their personal problems. The league third of the past four seasons has already been rejuvenated significantly. In addition, the two center defenders Lu Meo Ulrich and Reiko Zech were currently out due to health problems – and in the previous week of training, Center Ferdinand Korbel suffered a shoulder injury that forced him to take the break for the time being. Without the OSC trio, which would currently be considered for the German senior national team, the challenge is even greater. “But those who were in the pool gave another ten percent more. We compensated for that ”, praised trainer Alexander Tchigir. “A lot was about attitude and morals – that was right for us,” said Hüppe.
Due to Korbel’s failure, he not only took over his role as captain, but also had to work a lot in the power-intensive center position because the options for changing were not so extensive. Hüppe and Korbel would be among the best center duos in the league, judged Potsdam’s sporting director André Laube. “They complement each other perfectly.” But now the majority of the work was left to Hüppe alone, who, however, solved this task brilliantly on Saturday. With four goals, he was the top scorer of the game.
Concentrated, the orcas started on the defensive and proved themselves to be a better hunter in the offensive compared to the “great white sharks” from Hanover. It’s quickly 3-0. By the half-time break, the lead grew to six goals. Only after the break did the Tchigir team allow themselves a short period of weakness when they conceded three goals in the series. But the road to success was quickly set again. In the defense, many guest attacks that flared up were nipped in the bud through consistent defense. Erik Dortmann presents himself in the final instance as reliable support.
In addition to the 22-year-old Hüppe, Finn Taubert, born in 2006, also stood out in the attack, the youngest in the team scored three goals. Florian Burger and Till Hoffmann, who died the week before when Taubert had become German U16 champions with Potsdam, each met once. Due to the tense personnel situation, Erik Miers also stepped in. The 38-year-old veteran, who also scored a goal and actually only plays in the second OSC team for fun, Tchigir said “1000 times thanks” for the support.
The coach, who is actually critical in terms of duration, then appears surprisingly satisfied after the game. “Today the young team has proven that it can work. We have to take this feeling with us, ”he said. His conclusion also included: “Like today, the boys have to believe in themselves – and listen to the trainer.” It finally always burns at the edge of the pool.
