Nice win in Athens
Spain have caught up in the World Cup qualifiers after the recent international break was taken up with their involvement in the UEFA Nations League finals. In that competition, they played well to beat the hosts Italy 2-1 in the semifinals. They fell short against the French in the final where they came out on the wrong side of 2-1.

The Reds were quick to take the step when they returned to Group B. On Thursday, they went to Greece and won 1-0 in what in practice was a must. It was a victory that in a decisive way, helped by a surprising Sweden defeat in Georgia, moved them over the Swedes in the top of the group with one match left. It was a challenging night in Athens for Spain and they had to work hard for their victory by a determined and powerful Greek team, but a penalty in the first half from Pablo Sarabia was enough to give them three points.

Only one point needed for Spain
The result of the events in Batumi and Athens is that Spain now only needs one point to secure automatic qualification for next winter’s World Cup in Qatar. At home in Seville – an arena known for creating a cool, scary atmosphere – the Spaniards will be sure to get the job done, albeit with respect for a Swedish team that beat them 2-1 in Stockholm in September.

This is still a Spanish side in transition after the old guard, one by one, left the international scene. It is a talented group that has the ability to emulate the class of 2010 – the last Spanish team to win the World Cup. They will look to reach the semi-finals of last summer’s European Championships as a step forward but will want to go one step further in Qatar.
But first they have to qualify.

Nightmare in Batumi
The Swedes’ 2-0 defeat in Georgia was a hammer blow, because before that match they seemed to be in pole position for automatic qualifiers. During a nightmare in Batumi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored two goals to give the Georgians a huge win; one that cast great doubt on Janne Andersson’s team’s chances to avoid the playoffs. Only a win now in Sevilla will make them top the group and automatically head to Qatar.
But it has been an outstanding campaign for the blue and yellows who do not want it to flow in Seville. They have won five of their seven matches and only lost to Greece and Georgia. They have shown huge improvements when it comes to collecting their 15 points.
Even if they are guaranteed at least one playoff spot – Greece are six points behind them – the automatic route has always been their goal and they are still heading to Spain with the conviction of causing an uproar.

Swedes do not want to miss
After performing so well in the WC 2018 – they reached the quarterfinals before they were beaten 2-0 by England – Sweden will be anxious not to miss this time, especially after underperforming in this summer’s EC where they went out at. after reaching the quarterfinals after losing 2-1 to Ukraine after extra time.
This is a talented Swedish team, which they proved when they beat the Spaniards in Stockholm, but they will have to find their A-game if they are to get the win they need. However, they have been full of goals, having scored 12 in their seven matches, and will think they can sneak the victory they need, especially with Zlatan Ibrahimovic back in the group.

Spain vs Sweden Prediction
The win in Greece was huge for Spain and they will be full of confidence before this match. With a good performance in the Nations League finals also at the bank, they will believe that they can handle everything that the Swedes can throw at them and come out with a minimum of a draw.
Sweden will fight and make life tough for a Spanish team that will dominate the ball, but it is difficult to see that the guests have enough to win in what will be a hostile atmosphere. For me, despite the tempting price for a Sweden win, the value is still a meager home win.
Election: Spain wins (-260) / Spain wins 2-0 (+550)
