Letter to the editor – Hunters continue to rely on dialogue
The changes to the hunting law were adopted in the state parliament with very narrow majorities. This is a democratic decision that the Liechtenstein hunting community accepts. During the discussion, the MPs recognized the very complex interrelationships of the forest and its environmental impacts. The Liechtenstein hunters continue to campaign for the entire habitat, especially for game and forest, ecologically, especially since the forest is the most important habitat system in our country. SIE stands for a locally necessary, animal welfare-friendly regulation of the wild population. The wild ecological habitat requirements of all wild animals should be respected and they should not be degraded to a pure forest pest. This requires sustainable hunting at a technically high level, which the Liechtenstein hunters have been practicing for a long time and are ready to implement together with the game guard in the future.
After the discussion, the board of directors of the Liechtenstein hunting club, mandated by the extraordinary general assembly on October 25, 2021, decided to refrain from holding a referendum. This decision was made in the end, and especially in the endeavor for constructive cooperation with all parties involved.
The Liechtenstein hunters continue to advocate the preservation and rejuvenation of the forest and the associated protective effect and a holistic view of the habitat. SIE therefore also expects that all points of the package of measures decided upon by the ministry will be implemented promptly.
The necessary clarifications and scientific bases announced by the government must now be developed quickly in order to guarantee sustainable and comprehensible hunting and game regulation as well as habitat upgrading. The Liechtenstein hunters lend a hand and will also carefully observe and accompany the measures. SHE expects that the hunters, the tenants and the game rangers are involved on an equal footing with all other forest use owners, and that they do not give preference to individual interests.
