Italy defender Alessandro Bastoni forfeits Northern Ireland
Italy registered another forfeit ahead of their game in Northern Ireland on Monday, decisive for qualifying for the 2022 World Cup, with the departure on Saturday of Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni, who suffered a groin injury last week during of the Milan derby (1-1).
Bastoni, who was not on the scoresheet against Switzerland (1-1) on Friday in Rome, is added to the list provided of the packages recorded this week by coach Roberto Mancini: Giorgio Chiellini, Ciro Immobile, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Nicolo Zaniolo, in addition to the other injured who had not been summoned (Spinazzola, Verratti, Kean).

Even before the officialization of the package of Bastoni, 22 years old (9 selections), Mancini had summoned, Friday, the defender of Sassuolo, Gian Marco Ferrari, 29 years old (1 selection).
Back to back on Friday, Italy and Switzerland (which the Nazionale is only ahead of goal difference on the cusp of the final day of Group C in the Europe zone) will compete on Monday evening at a distance for the first place, synonymous with a direct ticket to Qatar (the second will play the play-offs in March), against opponents who can no longer claim qualification. While Italy plays in Northern Ireland, Switzerland will host Bulgaria.
