The mayor Maurizio Verona writes to the president of the Region Eugenio Giani to ask for support so that the construction of the connecting road network between Farnocchia and Sant’Anna is finally realized. To date Sant’Anna is accessed through the only road that from Sarzanese, through the territory of Camaiore, leads to the town: the road network has been the subject of an important redevelopment project in recent years thanks to the Region that made the easier access and allowed for residents to have a safe way. At the time of the massacre, the town could only be reached through the woods and mountain paths that the Nazi-Fascist troops traveled: several mule tracks recovered. There is no outlet to the territory of Stazzema and Farnocchia to whose history Sant’Anna di Stazzema, seat of the National Park of Peace, is inextricably linked. Farnocchia is no more than three kilometers from Sant’Anna. Since 1970, attempts have been made to connect the territory of Stazzema, which is located on the slope behind the town, with the hamlet closest to Sant’Anna, that is Farnocchia. “The Farnocchia-Sant’Anna connection has been talked about for many years now – comments the mayor – and allows for an alternative access to the existing one which is no longer able to adequately absorb the influx of visitors. Now we have a project of connection between the two countries that allows us to authorize a second access route to Sant’Anna. Today we need concrete help in the realization of this work that links the places of memory of the Stazzema side “.
