Conference of Mayors of the Mediterranean, meeting of the Scientific Committee in Florence
The scientific committee of the International Conference of Mayors of the Mediterranean, scheduled in Florence from 24 to 26 February 2022, met today at Palazzo Vecchio. The Conference will be held simultaneously with the Conference of the Italian Episcopal Conference “Mediterranean frontier of peace”, meeting of the Bishops of all the Churches of the different shores of the mare nostrum.
The scientific committee is coordinated by the mayor of Florence Dario Nardella and is made up of Romano Prodi, Enzo Bianco, Mario Primicerio, Franco Cardini, Marco Minniti, councilors Sara Funaro and Alessandro Martini. This morning’s meeting was attended by the Archbishop of Florence Cardinal Giuseppe Betori and the Vice President of the CEI Antonino Raspanti. Romano Prodi and Marco Minniti were not present today, the latter represented by Andrea Manciulli.
The Conference of Mayors is entitled “Mediterranean frontier of civilization” and will meet in Florence – in the wake of the great conferences in La Pira – 100 mayors from all the countries bordering the Mediterranean, from North Africa to the Middle East, from Greece and Balkans to France and Spain.
“The goal – said Mayor Dario Nardella – is to relaunch interest in the Mediterranean area through dialogue between the main cities, promoting concrete cooperation actions, in support of peace, in addition to cultural dialogue, environmental protection, health security, migration policies “.
