Malta’s U-21 national team found itself going tough against Spain as they succumbed to a major defeat in their fifth outing of their European qualifying campaign.
Spain, runners up in this year’s final, opened up a three-goal lead in the first half before rising to fourth in the second 45 minutes.
Gilbert Agius’ team stays at the bottom of the group with three points, along with Lithuania while Spain leads with 15 points.
Malta will return to action on Tuesday when they face Northern Ireland, away from home.
