Salzburg: No PCR tests in most pharmacies for the time being
Overworked
No samples accepted until Monday

PCR tests can no longer be carried out at almost all pharmacies in the state of Salzburg since Friday. The contract laboratory, with which most pharmacies work, can no longer accept samples until next Monday due to overload.
All other laboratories that man contacted are also at full capacity, said a spokesman for the pharmacists to the APA on Friday, confirming an ORF report. Of the 94 pharmacies in Salzburg, 70 offer PCR tests, 60 of which work together with the laboratory mentioned. These were informed on Thursday by the Chamber of Pharmacists that the laboratory capacities were “extremely exhausted” and that PCR smears can no longer be evaluated from Friday. “The laboratory goes under in the mass of positive samples,” said the spokesman. At least until next Monday, no more samples could be handed in. “Next week we expect to be able to have PCR tests evaluated again.”
Pharmacies offer antigen tests as well
The pharmacies continue to offer antigen tests, which are currently sufficient for access to the workplace. In addition, the spokesman pointed out that so-called point-of-care devices should be made available to pharmacies from the end of November, with which the PCR test can be evaluated directly in the pharmacy within one hour.
