Georgia defeats Sweden in the World Cup qualifiers because the Swedish ambassador’s tweet amuses the fans
Georgia celebrated a second victory in its World Cup qualifying group 2022 when they defeated Sweden in Batumi on Thursday, while fans in the country were amused by a tweet from the Swedish ambassador, who used an expression in Georgian to illustrate his reaction to the result.
Through goals by rising midfielder Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the Georgian national team under coach Willy Sagnol happy local fans with a 2-0 victory at Adjarabet Arena stadium in the Black Sea coastal city.

Through the victory, Sweden let the lead in the group to Spain, while Georgia has done so collected seven points from their matches, leaving them just two behind third-placed Greece.
Together with fans on Batumi the stadium was Ulrik Tidestroem, Sweden’s ambassador to Georgia, and his tweet from the football arena gave social media users in Georgia another reason to smile.

Tidestroem used the multifaceted Georgian word “vaime” (roughly translated as “oh, no!”, Or “oh, my god!”) In his message, adding: “You may be guessing who I was cheering on, but hats off to a well-played game”.
The Swedish official also congratulated Sagnol’s team on the result, as Georgian users of Twitter, including the president of the country’s football association Levan Kobiashvili, responded to the tweet with wishes for success to the visiting team in their search for a place in next year’s World Cup.
The match on Thursday saw Kvaratskhelia score in minutes 51 and 77 to see his team make the final score. The match was the last match for the Georgian team in the qualifying round.
