Cape Verde wants social communication in the new cooperation program with Portugal – O Jornal Económico
The Cape Verdean Government defends that a media be included in the new Strategic Cooperation Program (PEC) between Portugal and Cape Verde, which will have a financial envelope exceeding 120 million euros.
“The Portuguese State and the Cape Verdean State also assimilate the idea that one of the fundamental foundations of the fundamental strengthening of the strengthening of cooperation and friendship relations between Portugal and Cape Verde can be the social communication sector and that this is inscribed in the next Strategic Cooperation Program between these countries ”, suggested the assistant secretary of State to the Cape Verdean Prime Minister, Lourenço Lopes.
The Cape Verdean government official spoke in Praia after signing a cooperation protocol with the Lusa agency, one of the vectors of which is the realization of curricular internships by students at the end of the Social Communication course at Cape Verdean universities at the headquarters of the Portuguese agency in Lisbon.
According to Lourenço Lopes, a partnership between the Government of Cape Verde, the Lusa agency and the Cape Verdean news agency, Inforpress, in this sector can also be a “very valuable instrument” for an affirmation of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP ).
The other vectors of the protocol are training Cape Verdean community radio stations and increasing their skills and the amount of content on Lusa, as well as the continuous training of social communication professionals and participation in seminars and internationals.
Portugal and Cape Verde started on September 28 the preparation of a new Strategic Cooperation Program (PEC) 2022-2026, which will be signed at the next summit between the two countries, which should take place later this year.
The preparation for the next PEC will take place in Praia, as part of a four-day visit to Cape Verde by a delegation from Camões – Institute for Cooperation and Language, IP, headed by vice president Cristina Moniz.
Justice, security, education, training, culture, science and innovation, health and social affairs, energy and environment, public finance and the private sector were the areas of intervention of the current program, signed in 2017.
As for the new financial package, Cristina Moniz said that it will be decided at a political level and the signing will take place during the next summit between Portugal and Cape Verde, which should take place later this year and the Cape Verdeans will be the hosts this time.
In October, Cape Verde’s deputy prime minister, Olavo Correia, jumped the “great opening” of the Portuguese government and said he was “confident” in a “good deal” for the new PEC, which will have a financial envelope of over 120 million of euros.
“There has been a great opening on the part of the Portuguese Government and I am confident that we will reach a good agreement”, said on Tuesday afternoon the Minister of Finance, who is also finance minister, at a press conference to present the State Budget for 2022.
“We are negotiating well with Portugal, not only conventional projects, but now new projects, new partnerships, new approaches, also in light of the new context, with the framework we are facing today”, pointed out the government official.
A week earlier, the Portuguese Secretary of State for Cooperation, Francisco André, said that the new PEC with Cape Verde will have a financial envelope of over 120 million euros, but the final value has not yet been defined.
“In principle, we never make programs with amounts lower than those executed in the previous period, we are now evaluating the execution rates, but the financial envelope will not be less than 120 million euros”, said the Portuguese Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. .
