Austria before lockdown for unvaccinated people
November 12, 2021, 3:06 p.m.
innsbruck Do not lose any time – that is the motto in the fight against the fourth corona wave in Austria. The lockdown for unvaccinated people should start soon.
In Austria, a lockdown for unvaccinated people is to start in a few days in the fight against the corona pandemic. As Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg announced in Innsbruck, the relevant decisions should be made on Sunday.
In view of the steep rise in the number of infections, it is no longer sensible to wait. “We have to tighten the screws again,” said Schallenberg. The conservative politician justified the further restrictions for non-immunized people who had been vaccinated against corona. When exactly and how long the lockdown should apply, it was not stated. As of Sunday, Germany will classify Austria as a high-risk area – the tourism industry in particular now fears serious consequences.
3G rule in the workplace
It was only on Monday that the Austrian government introduced a 2G rule for bars, tourism, events and sports: only those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered from Covid-19 have access. In addition, a 3G rule in the workplace has been in force since the beginning of November, according to which unvaccinated persons must regularly show negative tests.

The two federal states of Upper Austria and Salzburg, which border on Germany, will introduce the lockdown for unvaccinated people from Monday due to the particularly dramatic corona situation. Without the first vaccination, people are only allowed to leave their home to meet possible needs, go to work or take other urgent steps. In addition, many events are banned. A lockdown for all efforts to increase the vaccination rate, which is currently 65 percent across Austria, thwarted, said the head of Salzburg, Wilfried Haslauer.
Compulsory vaccination for health professions is to follow
Past tightenings have already led to an increase in the number of first and booster vaccinations. According to Health Minister Wolfgang Mckstein (Grne), 78,000 injections were made on Thursday – the highest daily value in four months. To protect particularly vulnerable people in clinics and care facilities, Austria will introduce mandatory vaccination for health professions, the minister further announced.
Meanwhile, the number of infections in Austria continues to rise sharply. On Friday, the authorities reported almost 11,800 new infections within 24 hours. Taking into account the population, this corresponds to around 100,000 cases in Germany.
